Ross Holcombe
Biography
Ross Holcombe Ross Holcombe has performed as an orchestral, chamber, and solo musician across the United States and abroad. He has given concerts and recitals in venues such as Boston Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, NEC's Jordan Hall, Ozawa Hall and Koussevitzky Music Shed at Tanglewood, and Kitara Hall in Sapporo, Japan.

Ross currently serves as the associate principal/second trombonist of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra. He also performs with the Frequency Band, the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the Neponset Valley Philharmonic, the NEC Philharmonia Orchestra, and the NEC Contemporary Ensemble in addition to frequent appearances with other New England orchestras.

In addition to his orchestral performances, Ross is an avid chamber musician, having performed in brass quintets, trombone quartets, and numerous other mixed chamber groups. Ross is currently a member of the Apollo Quartet, a trombone ensemble that presents frequent recitals and concerts in Boston. Other ensembles Ross has performed in have been selected as the Honors Quintet for New England Conservatory, and have given recitals across the United States and abroad. As a member of the Artus Quintet, Ross was an artist in residence for the 2008 Virginia Arts Festival. Additionally, he was a guest performer at the 2009 Eastern Trombone Workshop as a member of the Frequency Band.

As a soloist, Ross has given recitals and solo performances across the eastern United States. He has presented recitals at the Florida State University and New England Consevatory, and was heard as a soloist on NPR's radio show, From the Top. Ross is also a champion of new works for brass, and frequently presents world premieres of works for solo trombone and trombone in other chamber settings.

During the summers, Ross has attended festivals and programs such as the Tanglewood Music Center, National Repertory Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival, the National Orchestral Institute, the Atlantic Brass Quintet Seminar, and the Summer Trombone Workshop at Temple University.

In addition to his activities as a performer, Ross is an experienced musical educator. He maintains private studios in Florida and Massachusetts, and has given masterclasses at schools throughout both states. In 2007, he founded the Ross Holcombe Summer Brass Workshop, a week of intensive classes and rehearsals for talented Florida high school students. Ross is also committed to educational outreach performances, having given interactive recitals and demonstrations throughout the Boston area schools as well as community and educational venues in Sapporo, Japan.

Ross earned his Bachelor's of Music from the New England Conservatory. His teachers include Norman Bolter, Grady McGrannahan, John Drew, Joseph Frye, and Dale Moore.
